From pollution to purpose
Each piece of this artworks was once polluting our oceans.
Now, it's part of my story.
I collected micro plastics washed ashore and transformed them into visual art statements.
reminding us of the beauty we can create when we choose to care.
This isn't just art, it's a call to action.
Let's turn awareness into action one piece at the time.

A Life in Art:
The Mona Lisa Project and the Legacy of Creation
Welcome to the world of Florentijn, an artist whose life is inextricably linked to the power of creation and the echoes of a rich artistic heritage. As the daughter of renowned sculptors Wilna Haffmans and Gerard Bruning, art was not a choice, but a natural breath. Her genes also carry a fascinating connection to the legendary Vincent van Gogh, a lineage that further explains her deeply rooted passion for painting.
The Mona Lisa Project:
A Thousand Faces, One Story
The Mona Lisa Project is an ambitious 25-year journey resulting in no less than 1000 unique interpretations of the world's most iconic Mona Lisa portrait. This project is far more than a tribute to Leonardo da Vinci; it's a profound exploration of the evolution of painting, a mirror reflecting 25 years of art history through her unique lens.
Each Mona Lisa tells a part of this story, but also a part of her own. Behind the iconic mask of the Mona Lisa, unveils a vulnerably yet powerfully personal healing journey. The canvas becomes a space for introspection, where layers of paint, digital skills and AI merge with the layers of her own experiences.
Joint Exhibitions and International Recognition
The impact of the Mona Lisa Project extends far beyond the studio walls. Florentijn has shared her vision in prominent exhibitions in cities like Amsterdam, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Paris, Agadir, Venlo, Korea, Maastricht and Lille . During these exhibitions, she has showcased her work alongside an impressive array of international and national artists and icons. Among them are names like Banksy, Shepard Fairey, The London Police, Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones, Max Zorn, Ans Marcus, Herman Brood, Frederique Spigt, Hans Dagelet, Patricia Steur, Govert de Roos, Rep Ringel, Ives One, Hugo Kaagman, Wilna Haffmans and Gerard Bruning, . These joint exhibitions underscore the universal appeal and profound depth of her artistic dialogue.
The Mona Lisa Project is a living testament to dedication, evolution, and the transformative power of art. It invites you to delve deeper into the layers of beauty, history, and personal expression.

The campaign, which launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. In 2023, we called on the world to RISE FOR FREEDOM.
